ADVICE FROM A.A. PATROL TO-DAY'S DISTRICT REPORT For the information of motorists intending to travel from Gisborne the following report on road conditions was made available this morning by the resident A.A. patrol, Mr. D. M. McGregor:— Gisborne-Opotiki, via Cape Runaway.—Surface good; water courses low, Raukokore River passable for heavy cars with experienced drivers without assistance; inexperienced drivers should be towed through. Gisborne-Opotiki, via Waiocka. — Good order; exercise care and do not speed in gorge section. Gisborne-Opotiki, via Motu.—Surface fair; narrow winding road.
Gisborne-Wairoa, via Morere. —Good order to Nuhaka, beyond that corrugated.
Gisborne-Wairoa, via Tiniroto.—Reasonable travelling surface. Wairoa-Napier. Mohaka traffic bridge now open; reconstruction Tangoio route also open to traffic; old settlement road advised in event of rain.
Waikaremoana-Rotorua— Good order
Advice has been received by the A.A. patrol fromi a motorist who travelled over the Gisborne-Opotiki, via Coast, scenic highway within the past two days that the route is in good condition. The Whangaparoa River crossing was only hub deep. It was still not wise to attempt to cross the Raukokore River under the car's own power. He had learned of a driver of a baby-type car who had attempted it &nd had gone into water that reached his car windows. In order to remove the car from the ford it was necessary to load it on to a lorry.
