FRANCIS DRAKE SPELLING NOT FOR AUCKLAND CUP GOOD SPRINT BY STRETTO By “Trenton” Reports from Woodville state 1 that Francis Drake is on the easy list and consequently will riot fulfil his Auckland Cup engagement at Christmas.
Night Raid Colt The two-year-old colt by Night Raid -Queen March, who arrived from the Elders]ie Stud last week, has gone into K. S.-Bagby’s stable. A youngster of quality, he is a half-brother to the good performers King March, Limarch and Birthday Boy. Local Nominations Gisborne will be well represented at Ellerslie providing those that have been nominated fulfil their engagements. They include Sly Fox, Skyway, Blonde Princess, Small Boy, Do Friend, Golden Blonde and Gay Mimic. Change of Stables Cardplayer, who was trained for a time at Washdyke, lias returned to V. Lee’s stable at Greymoulh. The McLean Stakes winner has never fulfilled the promise she gave in the spring of 1536. Strelto’s Prospects Stretlo drew attention tn her Railway Handicap prospects by sprinting half a mile in 50sec. at Ellerslie. All going well in the meantime, she will start in the Railway. Remained at Ellerslie The local owner-trainer, Mr. A. M. Mclntosh has left Blonde Princess at Ellerslie for the summer meeting. He will probebly return to Ellerslie within a week or so with his Auckland Cup candidate Sly Fox. Kept Going Lady Furst is being kept up to the mark, but so far she is not in any nomination list published. It was reported recently that she would race at the New Year meeting at Hastings and then would be turned out until next season. Working Reverse Way Padishah is doing most of his work right-handed on the Hastings track, so it looks as if the Wellington Cup winner is preparing for a second try to win the, Auckland Cup. Sternchase Sternchase, since his hollow victory at Te Rapa, has not been given any serious tasks at Hastings, but he looks all the better for the racing. He is not tq be raced extensively this season, but has been nominated for Woodville. Out of Luck H. N. Wiggins had his unlucky day at Gtaki on Saturday. He rode four horses into second place without riding a winner. Worth Remembering Play On accounted for the big race at Otaki on Saturday in easy fashion. It appears as if the son of Philamor is at his best now, and he will have to be considered when the holiday racing comes round.
