DOMINION VOTERS

- Mfftltm mm » ■.—.-—■ 1,000,000 WOT REACHED INCREASE ON 1935 POLL .HOWS AND ADVENTISTS NO special provision: (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The total number of names on the electoral roll for the Dominion for the 1938 general election has fallen short of the million mark by only 5000. The figure would have been well in excess of 1,000,000 but for deletions from the main roll necessitated by death, emigration from the Dominion and transfers to other electorates. The main roll total was 805,642 from which have to be deducted deletions totalling 58,135. The total number on the supplementary rolls is 187,279 giving a total effective roll for 1938 of 994,780 an increase on the effective roll for the 1935 election of 74,988.

"There still appears to be some misunderstanding about the position of those persons whose religious convictions prevent them from voting on a Saturday," said the Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. G. G. Hodgkins. "No special provision has been made for persons of that class, and postal voting is not applicable to them."
