CANADIAN WRESTLER

PRAISE FOR McOREADY

COMPARISON WITH RUSSIAN

An English wrestling referee and promoter, Mr. J. Smith, who saw Georges Hackenschmidt at his best, makes the following interesting comparison between the famous Russian and Earl McCh'eady, the British Empire champion, who is at present in London attempting to create a revival of interest in the sport. Mr. Smith says:— "The present revival of interest in wrestling features Earl McCready, a Canadian born of Scottish father aria Irish mother, who compares more than favourably with the great Hackenschmidt m weight, size, speed, ana skill. McCready is 4in. taller and 20ib heavier than Hackenschmidt. He doet. hoc possess tne Russian Lion's development, but his weight is spreac; over a bigger frame with greate symmetry, and he carries no sti). eifluous fiesh. "I would not like to say that McCready is stronger than Hackenschmidt was, but I would say that he is a triile faster. 1 have seen McCready wrestle, and would say that he was a better all-round expooent of the art oi catch-as-catch-can, which, with Hackenschmidt, was a latter-day acquirement."
