NO FATAL ROAD CRASHES
FREEDOM FOR FORTNIGHT RECORD FOR DOMINION (Por Pross Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. "New Zealand hay just created a record not only for itself but probably for the whole world," said the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple to-day. "We have just completed a record period of freedom from fatal road accidents since the accidents statistical system was started." He was referring to the fact that New Zealand had gone 15 days without a single death on the roads and apparently without a very serious crash. He added that these figures were not achieved because people had stayed at home, the reports indicating that the traflc had been very heavy during the past two week-ends and political meetings had brought more than the usual quota of pedestrians on to the roads at night.
He said the record was something for New Zealand to be proud of and looked forward to its continuance.
