DANCER IN HASTE
CALLED FROM LONDON FLIGHT TO MELBOURNE SYDNEY, Sept. 28. The famous dancer, Anton Dolin. paused for five minutes in Sydney yesterday, on his way from London to Melbourne. He will dance this evening in "Le Lac des Cygnes," which will open the Russian Ballet's season at His Majesty's Theatre, Melbourne.
This hasty clash from England was necessitated by an accident which occurred to David Lichine. According to the original plans, Lichine was to have appeared in the ballet to-night, and Dolin to have joined the company in a few days' time But Lichine strained an ankle. The airliner from Brisbane was due at the Kingsford Smith airport yesterday at 2 o'clock, and the Melbourne plane was to depart at 2.30. But head-winds delayed the arrival until 2.45. Mr. Dolin had just time to pose for the photographers, say a few words to reporters; and climb into the airliner for Melbourne. This is the first time the J. C. Williamson management has brought an artist to Australia by air. The Broadcasting Commission has already set the example by bringing Georg Schneevoigt, Bronislaw Hubcrman. and Arthur Rubinstein.
Mr. Dolin said yesterday that he had just finished a successful season with Alicia Mark-ova in a specially organised company. Markova had now goe.e to America with the Massine ballet. "1 hope to bring her to Australia in a y<jnr or two," said Mr. Dolin.
