THE RUGBY SEASON ENDS

FINAL MATCH TO-MORROW

LAST PREMIER CUP GAME

INJURED PLAYERS' GATE

By "Sideline"

The Rugby season in Gisborne will conclude to-morrow with the playing of the last Premier Cup game, the match between Marist and Celtic promising to be full of interest. In the competition series the trend of the games were closer tha>a indicated by the final points and the Celts will have to look to their laurels if they want to walk off the field with the cup secure. A decision also has been reached by the Poverty Bay Rugby Union to devote the net gate takings to the injured players' fund. A Town v. Country match was to have been played earlier in the season to establish the fund, but it had to be abandoned on account of the weather. The match to-morrow gives every indication of being a better draw for the fund. In the final round for the Premier Cup, Marist took an early lead by defeating Old Boys, the H.5.0.8.-Celtic game being drawn. Marist held their end-of-season form and defeated the ex-students, the points at this stage being:—Marist 4, Celtic 3, H. 5.0.8. 1, and Old Boys 0. The Rest v. Old Boys B The junior curtain-raiser should be a suitable opening for the afternoon's sport. The Old Boys B junior team has an unbeaten record this season and has been challenged by the players of the remaining teams in the competition. Although the Old Boys will be extended by the semi-representative team placed in the field against them they are confident that they will make a match of it in an attempt to keep their record intact.

During the season five representative matches were played by the Poverty Bay senior representative side and three wins were registered, the team being defeated by East Coast and Hawke's Bay. Folowing is the list of results:— v. Wairoa. —Won 14 to 11. v. Hawke's Bay.—Lost 6 to 11. v. East Coast. —Lost 10 to 15. v. East Coast.—Won 20 to 13. v. Bay of Plenty.—Won 21 to 11.
