HAND-SHEARING WAGE
INCREASE IN AUSTRALIA VERDICT OP THE COURT (Reed. Sept. 10, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 9. In the Federal- Arbitration Court to-day Mr. Justice Dethridge delivered judgment on the claim foi wage increases for. shed hands and cooks and a reduction of hours from 52 to 48 weekly for station hands. Hand shearers were granted an increase of is per 100 over the,rate urovided for machine shearers, who will continue to receive the existing wage of 35s per hundred. r • -
The judge says that the pastoral industry is passing l through difficult times! due to drought, disturbed oversea conditions and wool substitutes.
