BANDIT’S RUSE FAILS
THREAT TO WRECK BANK ' ■ A * ' EXPLOSIVE “UP. SLEEVE” FAINT BEFORE DETECTIVES (Reed. Sept. 10, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 9. A mild-looking little man walked into a large mid-town, bank during the height of the afternoon crowd and patiently awaited his turn at the manager’s desk on which he exhibited a large satchel and whispered: “I have got a bottle of nitroglycerine up pry sleeve and enough dynamite in the bag to blow up the 'bank... If I don’t get. £■6ooo, I will do it.” ‘
The manager agreed and pretended to go to a vault to obtain the money. Insted, he telephoned the police.
When detectives rushed in, the man fainted. The police carried him off to the hospital. ■
They found 34 sticks of’.dynamite and 46 percussion caps in a .'bag and a. bottle of dark liquid which, however, was not explosive. ■
