The report of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board on the Smithfield market for the week ended September 8, states:— “Lamb. —The market is very firm, with prices again higher for New Zealand consignments. WAIKATO STOCK VALUES ALL SECTIONS BUOYANT Weather conditions in the Waikato have improved considerably, and, although two sharp frosts have been experienced since the week-end, the davs have been warm and a good growth should ensue. Conditions in practically every section of the stock business are fairly buoyant.

The keen inquiry which set. in for store cattle three weeks ago has been well maintained. On Monday last a special sale of mostly Wairoa-bred cattle attracted a large bench of buyers from practically all parts of the Waikato, and most satisfactory values ruled.

CAMBRIDGE HORSE FAIR VALUES £lO LOWER At the Cambridge Horse Fair this week chief interest was centred ai good quality South Island horses, but values were down £lO a head on last veai. Aged heavy, horses and also light sorts were hard to quit. In some special entries, prices went up to £74 11s, and Williams and Kettle, Limited, Gisborne, purchased one at £57 15s. WALDAS SHOES, LIMITED YEAR’S DIVIDEND PASSED The directors of Waldas Shoes, Limited, Melbourne, have decided not to recommend a dividend on eithei pieference or ordinary shares for the year ended June 30. The interim payment also was passed, owing to difficult uadi>.ig conditions. For 1935-36, 15 per cent was paid on ordinary shares in addition to a pieTerence dividend of 8 per cent. In 1936-37 the preference dividend was maintained, but no ordinary distribution was made. DOMINION BREWERIES ISSUE OVER-SUBSCRIBED In response to the offer of 50.000 ordinary shares of £1 each at a piemium of 5s made to shareholders m Dominion Breweries, Limited, total applications received exceed J.i.ouu. Shareholders who applied for shares m excess of their quota will receive approximately 4 per cent of their exees., requirements. The result is substantially equal to that attained lor the issue made by the company m August. 1937. LONDON WOOL SALES DOUBTFUL PROSPECTS The Bank of New Zealand rcpoits having received the following advice from London dated September 9 concerning the next series of London wool sales to open on Septembei M). ‘•Prospects for the next series ol London wool sales are doubtlul. It is generally expected that Mer.nos wil decline by id to Id per lb and that crossbreds will be Id lower.
