An intense anti-cyclone located over south-east-ern Australia is moving on to the Tasman and extends toward southern New Zealand. Forecast.—Winds moderate to strong, south-westerlies in the far north, elsewhere east to south prevailing, strong In the central provinces and reaching gale force in Cook Strait; light to moderate in the south. Seas, in New Zealand waters becoming rather rough to rough north of Farewell Spit and between Banks Peninsula and East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman.—Strong southerly winds and rough seas, but conditions moderating from the west. Weather. — Fair to fine in western districts of the South Island; cloudy to overcast about and north of Cook Strait, with intermittent rain; some scattered showers also in eastern districts of the South Island. Temperature very cold, with snow on the high levels. To-day's North Island Report Blue skies were reported in the Bay of Plenty this morning, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Moderate to strong southerly breezes were general. The barometer 'had risen steadily since yesterday. Temperatures at 9 o'clock were: Auckland, Tauranga and Opotiki 50 degrees, East Cape 52, Gisborne 51, Napier 45, and Wellington 43. Rough seas were reported between Cape Campbell and Castlepoint, Gisborne. East Cape, and Tiritiri: elsewhere moderate or smooth. Midday Forecast General Situation.—Yesterday's depression is passing away eastward. An anticyclone extends from the western Tasman Sea on to southern New Zealand and pressure is rising over the Dominion generally. Forecast.—Moderate to strong southerly winds reaching gale force in some exposed positions, but gradually decreasing. Weather. —Cloudy to overcast with some passing showers still probable and, in places. hail. Temperatures.—Very cold, with some frosts. Seas.—Rough.
