Though 111155130 by birth—she wafc born in Vladivostok —Mara LossefT has lived most of her 28 years in Japan and Germany. Forced out of thennative country by the Bolshevik menace, the family fled first to Japan, where Mara spent the next few years within the seclusion of convent walls. Later the family migrated to Germany, where the actress again entered a convent. Developing her singing voice under the tutelage of a famous teacher, Mara decided- to' adopt a musical
career. Her most important engagement in this field took her on an opera tour of Europe, during -which she was heard by Richard Tauber.
