She Pays Alimony
RESPITE the fact that they really lo.ve each other, Mrs. Conway prefers her job, and a separation is arranged. Each then begins a game of bluff; Mr. Conway wins the first round when the judge orders his wife to pay him 400 dollars a month alimony. Then enters • the other woman, Claudia Weston (Binnie Barnes), but she serves only to make Mrs. Conway jealous; Mr. Conway is not really interested. Affairs are patched up for one night because of the arrival of Uncle Dawson, who believes the Conways to be happily married, but his temporary reconcilialtion only widens the breach when Mr. Conway discovers that the new butler is a private detective. But there is still a shot in the locker on the side of Mrs. Conway—what Harry Borden (Warren William), her theatrical partner, calls “the monkey .wrench in the machin-
ery of women’s independence.” When Mr.- Conway hears of it, the reconciliation becomes permanent. The film presents only one aspect of the question ol' the independence of married women, but it will give those who consider the problem an opportunity to present their views.
