AUCKLAND, this day
Marooned by flood waters to a depth of over' two feet fronting the property, the residents in four houses on the Great South rbad, Ellerslie, have been without road access since Saturday. To obtain provisions the residents ■have. to walk across roughly-improvised duckboards in tvheir backyards, across a rocky blackberry-infested section, climb over a stone wall and walk along the railway line to the road.
One resident, Mr. E. A. Booth, who is putting the finishing touches to a pair of stilts, suggested that the fire brigade should pump the water out of the sections. There is still 10ft. of water at the back of his house. All sorts of 'flotsam and jetsam float around the house, but what annoys him most is a goose that swims under the house at night and keeps the family awake.
The family next door has numerous eels swimming over the front lawn. A small boy spends his time fishing for them off the verandah. The residents c&mplain that the contents of the Ellerslie septic tank deposit a film on the ground when the flood waters subside.
