WELLINGTON, this day.
On a visit to Australia, from which he returned to-day, Mr. Will Appleton, a well-known Wellington citizen, gave particular regard to housing. He says that last year private buildings erected in Sydney and suburbs were valued at over £13,000,000, an increase of 30 per cent on the previous 12 months. Costs generally were 33 1-3 per cent below the costs in Wellington.
In Melbourne the permits for the year ended June 30 were over £8,000,000, of which over 00 per cent was domestic.
