MR. PERRY HONOURED
THESIS ON EDUCATION
Cabled advice has been received in Christchurch that the examiners have recommended that the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Education of the University of London be conferred on Mr. A. L* M. Perry, of the staff of the Christchurch Boys' High School.
The titie of Dr. Perry's thesis was
"An investigation into recent tendencies in post-primary education in England and America and their implications for the reorganisation of postprimary education in New Zealand." The investigation was suggested by Dr. C. E. fßce'by, now Assistant-Director oi Education New Zealand, and was carried out during Dr. Perry's two years' leave of absence in England and the United States, under the direction of Professor F. Clarke, Director of the University of London Institute of Education.
On their recommendation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York awarded Dr. Perry, while in London, a Carnegie Fellowship to enable him to conduct a personal investigation into post-primary education in America, with a view to his conclusions being considered in the reorganisation of education in New Zealand. After seven months devoted to this inquiry, Dr. Perry returned to London to complete the writing of the thesis.
