MORE DIVORCE CASES

INCREASE IN ENGLAND EFFECT OF RECENT BILL "The passing of Mr. A. P. Herbert's bill has led to a large increase in the number of divorce cases in England." said Mr. Justice Boyce. of Sydney, who arrived at Auckland by the Rangitata after a holiday in England and on the Continent. "By courtesy of Sir Boyd Merriman, president of the probate and matrimonial jurisdiction in England, I sat en the Bench with Mr. Justice Bucknill, one of the divorce judges, lor part of a morning," Mr. Justice Boyce continued. "The increase in divorces was immediately apparent titter Mr. Herbert's bill was passed, as far as I could ascertain. "Some people in England seem to think that the country has gone beyond its limit in granting divorces. but (-ven now in many ways the relief is not as liberal as in New Zealand or some parts of Australia, for instance New South Wales," he said. "It is true that in New South Wales we do not. admit insanity over a period as a ground lor divorce. It was a matter of great controversy in New South Wales some years ago. but no relief has yet. been granted. That is one of the main features of Mr. Herbert's measure."
