WAVE OF INFLUENZA

MANY STAFFS DEPLETED

PRECAUTIONS NECESSARY

"The position regarding influenza in Gisborne is much the same, and although most of the cases are of the mild type some are similar in character to those during the old epidemic," said a Gisborne medical man to-day.

The staffs of many business houses in Gisborne have been seriously depleted, while there arc diminished attendances of pupils and stall' at the schools. It was thought that the position would not improve greatly until the weather became drier.

Under the present conditions precautions were necessary to prevent the spread of the disease any further, said the doctor, who was of opinion that the use of gargles and mouth washes by those who felt sickness overtaking them was not sufficient. By staying at work they were only spreading germs and their illness also might become more com-

plicated. "When you begin to feel shivery and off-colour it would be better for vou to leave work and get into bed. isolating yourself so as not to spread influenza," said the doctor. "If you are well do not allow anyone to Cough, over you."

Owing to the serious position which developed al the Cook Hospital early this week all visitors were slopped until further notice: This morning it was learned that the staff was almost back to normal and that the restrictions probably would be lifted again towards the end o!' the week.
