MEAT EXPORT RETURNS LAMB SHIPMENTS LOWE?/ GREATER MUTTON OUTPUT The decline in killings of lamb for export noted in the last fortnightly returß of the Meat Producers Board is"reflected in a drop of 70,702 carcases in shipments for the season to July 15 as against 'exports for the corresponding period of the previous season. The decline so far is less than 1 per cent. Exports of frozen beef and pork are also lower for the period and, as killings are down also, the season to date, f-om a production point of view, compares less favourably with the previous one. There is an exception, of course, in chilled beef and mutton, both of which reveal a substantial increase on last season's .'corresponding exports. Exports from October 1, 1937, to July 15, compare as follows with those of the corresponding perod of the previous season, the quantities being carcases where not otherwise stated:—

Stocks of chilled and frozen beef. wethers and lambs in store at July 15 were lower than at the corresponding date a year ago. Other classes were, higher. Fairly large stocks of lamb and ewe mutton were loaded at July 15 and awaiting departure.
