Mr. A. G. McPhail, Kaitaratahi, is leaving for Canada and the United States bv the R.M.S. Niagara, sailing from Auckland on August 9.

'Mr. H. O. Pittendrigh, managing director of Messrs. R. Hannah and Company, Limited, Wellington, is visitin Gisborne in connection with the opening of Hannah's new store.

Mr. E. J. Simmons, Longburn, Palmerston North, has been appointed to the position of veterinary supervisor in Gisborne in place of Mr. P. Haugh, who has been transferred to Petone.

Constable G. Waple, who has been assisting in the search for the body of the Hindu, Da hi Desai, for the past six weeks, returned to Gisborne last evening on leave. The Hindu disappeared and has not been seen since May 14. Since then 30 men have been camped on the shores of Lake Taharoa, Kawhia, and large tracts of land, as well as the lake, have been searched for traces of the missing man. The search is being continued.
