ARBOR DAY PLANTING

GISBORNE OBSERVANCE ASSEMBLY AT WAIKANAE The observance of Arbor Day in Gisborne has been passed over by the local bodies to be conducted by the Gisborne and District Beautifying Association and a function will be held at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow in the Waikanae Park. Arrangements are being made for groups of children from the schools 'in the district to assemble at the beach and carry out some organised planting under the supervision of the association. The gathering will include representatives of the Borough Council. One or two of the schools in the district al*o were carrying out a programme of their own, but it was understood that other schools would be doing nothing this season. Teachers in the latter schools were of the opinion that there was too much sickness about to take any risks by having the children out in the bad | weather.
