In the Davis Cup tennis elimination series Quist (Australia) defeated Tipi.i (Mexico). 6—l, (i- 1, 6—4. Tapia was very inaccurate and was no match for the Australian. .Schwartz (Australia) defeated Hernandez (Mexico), G—4, G I, G—2. Schwartz's work at the net was too much for Hernandez, who was unable to handle the Australian's volleys. Schwartz played in place of Bromwich, to give him experience in Davis Cup play.
GERMANS DEFEAT SLAVS

In the Davis Cup tennis series, llenkel (Germany) defeated Pallada (Yugoslavia), 6—4, 7-*5, 6—l. Germany thus eliminated Yugoslavia.
