DAVIS CUP TENNIS VICTORIES IN SINGLES (Reed. July 30, 1 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 20. In the Davis Cup elimination series Quist (Australia) defeated Hernandez (Mexico), 6—l, 7—5, 6—4. The Mexican simply was unable to volley or handle the ground shot in the manner requisite for tournament play. Bromwich defeated Tapia, (5—4, (5 —4, 6—4. Commenting on the play, Harry Hoprnan said the tennis was very ordinary. He was not worrying about the form of either Bromwich or Quist. They had not yet reached top form, but would play better in the later matches. "We cannot complain when we won six straight sets," he said.
