Captain M. P. Congdon, Wellington, has 'been appointed traffic manager and chief wharfinger in Wellington.

Dr; W. N. Searle, F.R.C.S., M.C.0.G., a graduate of the University of Otago, has been appointed to the honorary stafT of Chelsea Hospital, London. Mrs. F. W. Melhuish, Burns road. Napier, and her sister, Mrs. J. Kaye. Gisbbrne, have left for Nelson to attend the golden wedding of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Burnett. The Port of London Authority announced that it has appointed RearAdmiral R. W. Oldham, GB.E., to be air raids precautions officer. Admiral Oldham retired from the navy at the beginning of this year and subsequently assumed duties in the A.R.P V department of the Home Office. Flight-Lieutenant Anthony G. Lester, formerly officer in charge of the Hobsonville Air Base, who suffered a crash in the sea on February 27 last when testing a newly-assembled Tiger Moch training aeroplane, has now recovered from jhe serious injuries received on that occasion.

Mr. R. J. Vaughan, of the staff of Dalgety and Company, Limited, Hastings, is one of the successful 18 candidates who have been selected to enter the Royal Air Force. He is 24 years of age, and was educated at the Gisborne and Hastings High Schools Prior to moving to Hastings eight years ago he resided in Wairoa. Mr. Vaughan will sail by She Rangitata on August 25 for London. The Rev. Father B. F. Blake, S.M., formerly of Christchurch, has completed the B.A. degree in French at Oxford University. Father Blake, who was on the teaching staff of St. Bede's College, left for England two years ago under a scheme begun by the Society of Mary to give advanced training at universities in England and Europe to teachers for its colleges.

The Rev. K. T. Harawira, whose transfer to Rotorua was decided upon some weeks ago and notified by the Bishop of Aotearoa, the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, will leave Gisborne to-mor-row for his new district. Mr. Harawira has been several years in his charge at Manutuke, and will be much missed not only by his native parishioners but also by the European residents of the district. He has taken a prominent part in sports administration and in the organisation of work among the Maori choirs, and also has been a member of the Poverty Bay district committee which last year undertook a programme of historical research in connection with the national centennial plans. He is being replaced at Manutuke by the Rev. W. P. Mataira, Nuhaka.
