ROADS AGAIN AFFECTED

HILLS SLIP ONCE MORE

TATAPOURI AND OTOKO

The hills that have been giving trouble during the past week, Tatapouri and Otoko, slipped again during the week-end rain and the two highways were blocked to through traffic at 11 a.m. to-day. The beach detour was in use on the Coast road during low tide, and it was expected to have the Gisborne-Opotiki route opened before midday. The East Coast Motor Service reported this morning that services were being maintained, passengers being transhipped at high tide and the cars making use of the beach when the tide permitted.

The relieving resident A.A. patrol, Mr. D. C. Cummings, reported this morning as follows: —

Gisborne-Opotiki, via Waoieka Valley—Trouble with slip on Otoko Hill; expected to be open at midday to-day; surface greasy.

Gisborne-East Coast.—-Blocked at Tatapouri; watch tide and use beach detour; no traffic at night; north of the slip the surface is reasonable. Gisborne-Wairoa, via Morere. — Open. Gisborne-Wairoa, via Tiniroto.— Condition doubtful, alternative Morere route advised.

Wairoa-Napier Open, but not recommended.
