FORM REVIEWED

P.B. TURF CLUB’S RACE I‘R OF ESS lON A L BUR PR ISES By “Trenton" The form of the first day worked out fairly well, with one notable exception, that of Professional. After the way in which he stopped at the straight entrance in the Park Hurdles to finish last on opening day, few were prepared to see him win on the second day with a quarter of a mile further to go, and paid the best dividend of the day. Professional had 31b less to carry on the second day, but his time was much faster than on the first day, taken furlong for furlong, when the going was good for the first race compared with that on Saturday. Consistent Air Commodore followed up his first day's second placing by gaining a similar position on Saturday. He was finishing on each day and will have to be kept in mind when started over a longer journey. Wolsey and First Hand have a lot to learn about hurdling, but both show promise. Only Once Red Hunting reproduced his best track efforts when he took the Hack B’lat Handicap, but he never runs the same race twice. He was well back on Saturday in the Turanganui Handicap. Hinepit needed a race on Friday when she ran second, and on Saturday won going away. Now that she is right back to her best she should go on to further successes. Royal Stuart was finishing on strongly both days and his turn is not far off. Track displays by Head Shepherd have been only ordinary and his win in the maiden came as a mild surprise. He was not produced on Saturday. IllinoiS| followed up his fourth in the Publicans’ Purse by a comfortable win in the Trial on Saturday. The Mimetic mare is a competent hurdler and will not lack support when produced in that department. Mimicry, Tu Rahiri and Final all shaped creditably. Native Song put up a great performance to run second in the Maiden. He might have won had fte not been made so much use of out in front. The ’Chasers Good Hunting was the pick of the chasers seen at the meeting, but they were a poor lot. He was going like a winner on Saturday when he came to grief, but there was still a long way to go. Mahala appeared to be unlucky to fall on Saturday. She looked the winner when she was going nicely alongside Rapa Waiata four furlongs from home. Brown Lap is right at the top of his form and he should win again before* the handicapper gets to the bottom of him. Pennycomequick ran poorly each day. That was not her true form and can be passed over. Minnow should not be long in winning a race by the manner in which she finished on Saturday in the Winter Oats. Hunting Mars would more than likely have made his record two on end had he left the barrier on Saturday. Perfect Lady finished wide out and full of running in the last race op Saturday. She met with trouble on Friday, and should get a stake shortly. Old Lordly Knight appears to have seen his best days, but when the track is a bit firmer, it will be time enough to condemn him. True displayed plenty of pace and will be worth watching from now on. Bold Step and Reay Bridge were all at sea in the heavy going, but will do better on a firm track. There is nothing wrong with their condition. Sly Fox may have taken a hand in the finish of the Hack Flat, but for running wide at the straight entrance. He is a big colt and a less turning track would be more to his liking. Gay Hunter has not been long in work and her display was very promising.
