The Christchurch Huvit Club's annual meeting was held at Ricearton on Saturday in overcast and 'bitterly cold weather. After a light fall of snow overnight, the track was very soft. There was a moderate attendance. The totalisator handled £13.790, compared with £16,905 last year. i In the Homeby Steeplechase Clarion Call wals the winner, while the principal flat event, the Brabazon landicap, was claimed by Alma. El Caballo led Red .Sceptre over .he first fence In the Hunt Cup Steeplechase, with Macailpein and Tom Cat heading the others at the •tard double. Red Sceptre blundered at Cutts Fence, losing his rider and leaving El Caballo a long lead, juapo baulked at the first of the Kennels Double, and lost his rider. £\ Caballo was never troubled, win.i.ug by 10 lengths. Macailpein stayed and beat Tom Cat by four lengths. Hark was four lengths back. Chapter of Accidents. A chapter of accidents occurred in the Lawford Hack, only three of the eight starters completing the course. Gayfire and Bright Red led to the first of 4he Kennels Double, but both baulked, losing their riders. Culverden then went on with Snowy Dawn and Gold Wren, but made a bad jump at the top of the straight, losing his place. Conception fell at the top of che straight and Chile pulled up with a broken blood vessel. Snowy Dawn headed Gold Wren to Cutts, but the .alter took charge at the Kennels and ivc.i by four lengths. Clarion Call In Form 1 The Homeby Steeplechase was contested by seven Grand National Steeplechase candidates, all the horses completing the course after a good' exhibition of jumping. Bonny Rollox led over the first fence from Dunmure and Valpeen. After jumping the Kennels Double, Valpeen took charge, with Bryce Street last, having iost ground .through a faulty jump at the top of the straight. Clarion Call went to the front approaching .he carriage paddock, and at the stand was just clear of Dunmure and Valpeen. Bryce Street moved up at Cutts, »nd Clarion Call and Valpeen were together at the Kennels, with Dunmure and Bryce Street .next. Clarion Call led over the brush at ie top of the straight from Valpeen. Bryce Street, Johnny Rollox, Nocturnus and Dunmure. No change had t/'ken place at the last fence, and Clarion Call won comfortably, Bryce Street outstaying Valpeen in the run home to be second by three lengths. Asset and Comus began smartly in the Camla Hack Handicap, the colours of Potent, Aslaire and Orange Bud also being prominent early. With half the journey gone, Asset was showing the way to Astaire, Potent, Half and Half, and Rockingham. Astaire then took charge from Potent, and beat Half and Half by half a length, Strip finishing fast half H length back, beating Potent in the last two strides. Results:—

Bryce Street went into third place after jumping the Kennels double the second time, and closely followed Clarion Call and Valpeen to the last fence.
