GISBORNE'S DEATH RATE

Not for IS) years, since the influenza epidemic in 1919, have so many deaths been registered in Gisborne as last month. The deaths in July numbered 37, bringing the total for the year to 145. The average number of deaths for July is 15. The other figures in the vital statistics show little difference from the usual state of affairs.

The figures for July are as follows, the totals for the same month in 1937 being given in parentheses:—Births, 32 (36); deaths, 37 (9); marriages, 12 (9); marriages by registrar, 3 (3).

The totals for the seven months are shown below in comparison with the totals for the same period last year:— Births 247 (245); deaths, 145 (94); marriages, 123 (108); marriages by registrar, 26 (22).
