FOUND HANGING

MAORI WOMAN'S DEATH

YOUNG FAMILY LEFT

A Maori widow, Lena Swan, aged 42, was found at 7.30 a.m. to-day hanging in a shed at her home at Steel road, Tamarau, Kaiti. The husband of the deceased died 18 months ago and she leaves a family cf four young children.

The inquest was opened this morning before the coroner, Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., and was adjourned sine die.

A daughter of the deceased, Lillian Swan, aged 16, said that her mother had been ill for some time and had been acting strangely. The family went to bed at 7 p.m yesterday and the witness did not hear her mother stirring during the night. She awoke at 7.30 a.m. and found that her mother was no longer in bed. Upon making a search the witness discovered the body.
