Competition came mainly from Bradford, the Continent, and America, with local mills also operating. The market was on a par with recent sales, and 80 per cent of the offerings was sold under the hammer. Generally the condition of the crutchings was heavier than lnsfi season. Keen bidding predominated and best super sorts realised B?.d to lOd a lb., medium to good, 7d to B.Jd and inferior and seedy ranged from 4j|d lo 63d a pound. The customs returns for Canterbury for the first four months of the 19381939 financial year are down by £30,083. compared with the same period of last year. WAIKATO STOCK SALES VALUES AT MORRINSVILLE There was a small entry of fat sheep at the Morrinsvillc stock sale on Friday. The yarding met with good competition from a large bench of buyers, a brighter tone in this section being noticeable. The entry of beef comprised fat cows and heifers, the quality in most cases being second class. Competition was keen with recent advanced rates easily maintained. Store and boner cows were penned in smaller num bers, and for these rates remained unchanged. Quotations:Sheep. Fat two-tooth ewes, 2Gs: medium fat ewes, 18s: killable ewes, 12s; medium fat hoggets. 19s to 20s Gd; killable hoggets, 17s; small store hoggets, Gs Gd. Cattle.—Heavy fat cows, £8 19s to £9; medium Jersey cows, £7 Gs to £7 15s.
