Miss Ruth Butcher, Havelock North, who has been chosen to represent New Zealand in the 'basketball team which will leave for Australia in a fortnight, was the guest of honour at a iparty given by the Ha-wke's Bay Basketball Association.
Mrs. Bruce Spence, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Coleman, Rutene road, returned to her home in Hastings to-day.
Miss Joyce Morris, Tolaga Bay, arrived yesterday to be the guest of Miss S. Barton, "Whitifker street, for the race festivities.
Mr. .and Mrs D. C. S. Haiti, Waikura station, Hangaroa, arrived in town yesterday to spend a few days with the latter's mother, Mrs. F. B.'Barker, To Hapara.
Mrs. W. Seymour and Miss Jane Seymour, "Kohata," Whangara, are spending a few days this week at their residence in Seymour road. Kaiti.
Mrs. A. V. S. Reed returned to Napier on Tuesday after a short stay in Gisborne following a visit to her mother, Mrs. T. S. Williams, "Kaharau," Ruatoria.
Dr. and Mrs. D. Y. Allan, Waipawa, accompanied by their small son and daughter, arrived in Gisborne on Tuesday and are staying with Mrs. Allan's mother. Mrs. I. F. Puflett, Haronga road.
A visit to Australia is planned by Viscountess Stonehaven, wife of Viscount Stonehaven, a former Gover-nor-General of Australia. She will leave England in the last week in August, and will disembark at Melbourne.
Sifter Olive Hercus, a deaconess of the Presbyterian Church on the staff of the Dingwall Orphanage, has accepted a position to take up social work in South Dunedin under the Presbyterian Social Service Association.
Miss E. E. Parkerson, who for the last three years has 'been nursing for the Shanghai Municipal Council, is returning to New Zealand. She has in her care a sick missionary nurse, Miss Violet Bargrove, from the Church Missionary Society Hospital, Hangchow.
