' » WELLINGTON, this day. A total of £9OOO has been placed on the public works estimates for the provision of an automatic telephone exchange in Gisborne. The amount on the estimates last year was £IOOO, but none of this was spent. Tenders were called recently for the supply of equipment for Gisborne, but no announcement has been made vet of a tender being accepted. The total estimated cost is £14,600. A garage and store for the Post and Telegraph 'Department at an estimated cost of £6870 already has had £4698 spent on it, and a further £2170 is voted this year. A new residence, including site, is authorised far the Post and Telegraph Department in Wairoa, the amount placed on the estimates being £2300. Last year's vote was £1760, of which £BO was spent.
