The winner of the £2OOO prize in the art union drawn on Monday evennig is Mr. Alfred Francis Adams, 1(10 Hastings street, Napier, who elid not know of his gooel fortune until 18 hours after the art union was drawn, when a friend checked up the number. The fortunate winner has been in bad health for several years and recently made successful application foi' an invalidity pension. While working at the Tokomaru Hay freezing works he fell from a ladder and for nine weeks lay in hospital in a serious condition. His health has been bad since then.
Born in Napier, Mr. Adams has spent most of his life here, his only periods of absence being a slay of 10 years in Timaru and four in Tokomaru Hay. He is a widower and has two sons, Messrs. A. ,f. P. Adams, eif Elawera, .and I. J. Adams, of Port Ahuriri. There are four daughters, Mesdames A. Smith, of Westshore, R. Hawkins and A. Ellis. Hastings, and Mrs. A. Ranslev, Gisborne. Another of Mr. Adams' sons was lulled in the Great War.
Mr. Adams plans to take a lent: holiday in the Dominion in the hope that he will regain bus former state of health.
