APPEAL TO MEMBERS

i KAHUTIA BOWLING CLUB i | MORE PLAYERS WANTED SOCIAL COMMITTEE WORK A strong appeal to the members of the Kahutia Bowling Club to increase the membership was made last evening by Messrs. B. L. Power, R. B. Watt and W. Jackson at the annual meeting of the club. Some members were in favour of increasing the subscription, but in general they were in favour of co-operating to introduce more young players. Mr. Jackson was the chairman of the meeting. Remarking that the financial position of the club could have been better, Mr. Power said it in no way reflected on the work of the committee. There were tin active members, but there should be more, and he made an appeal to the members to interest their friends in the game j and increase the total of subscriptions! coming in each year. The social evenings had been successful functions, £BO being raised, and in this connection he paid a tribute to the j work of Mr. R. Campbell. The ladies'; committee, too, had been a wonderful asset to the club. He moved the adoption of the report and balance | sheet. I The motion was seconded by Mr. j T. Bury and carried. Officers Fleeted The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. W. Jackson; vicepresident, Mr. R. B. Watt; hon. secretary, Mr. C. G. Vail; hon. treasurer, Mr" R. Jenkins; committee, Messrs. R. Campbell, C. Corbett, C. T. C. Hands, T. Holt and G. McKessar; delegates to centre, Messrs. W. Jackson, R. B. Watt and B. L. Power; hon. auditor, Mr. J. Booth; selection committee, Mr. B. L. /Power. The presentation of trophies was carried out by Mr. Power. Nine new members were elected. Remarking that the Dan BarryMemorial Fours had gone back in recent years. Mr. B. Duritield moved

as a recommendation to the incoming committee that tin; rules and conditions governing that competition be printed and posted in a convenient place in the pavilion for the benefit of yoUng members. Me was supported by Mi'. Holland, and the motion was carried. Mr. Vail gave notice of motion that ho would move at the ncxi general meeting that a postal ballot be allowed members who were prevented from attending annual meetings on account of sickness or through their employment. There was a discussion on the method of selection after Mr. Dudfield had moved and Mr. Fischbach seconded that the championship fours be conducted on the graded system, but the motion was defeated and an amendment bv Mr. J. Newton, seconded by Mr. ('. T. C. Hands, lhat the matter of selection be left in the hands of the sole selector, was carried. A vole of thanks was accorded Mr. Hands lor the generous donation of a radio set as a means of increasing the club funds. Votes of thanks to the press and i chairman concluded (lie business. j It was a recommendation to the incoming committee, mi the motion of Mr. C. Holland, that the other clubs be met with a view to having the pennant games played on the same days as the centre championships so as to make good use of the Saturdays i before and during the Christmas holidays.
