ESCAPE BY GOVERNOR
MURDER PLOT FAILS GUARD OFFICER KILLED PUERTO RICA OUTRAGE (Klee. Tel. Copyright —United Press Assn.) (Reed. July 26, 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 25. A message from San Juan, Puerto Rica, states that national extremists attempted to assassinate the American Governor, Mr. Winship, during a fete marking tire fortieth anniversary of the American occupation of the island. Mr. Winship was not injured. A National Guard officer was shot dead and eight persons were wounded.
