BUSH IN HAWKE’S BAY

REAFFORESTATION NEED FIRE DISTRICT URGED The need for certain reforms with regard to afforestation in the Hawke’s Bay district were emphasised at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Aflorestation and Land Drainage Committee, which met in Napier on Saturday. The committee stressed the need for the declaration of a fire district in Hawke’s Bay. It also agreed that consideration should be given to the condition of the Esk River, and to the question of State leases, where there is still a certain amount of bush. Members of the committee are to consider the ■ question of a future policy, and their suggestions are to be discussed at a later meeting.

It is hoped that the committee will be able to work in conjunction with the Public Works Department, which has appointed a committee of three to inquire into the same questions.
