Returns submitted to the Gisborne Harbour Board to-day revealed that for May 4408 tons of cargo passed inward over the Gisborne wharves, compared with 6.182 tons in May, 1987, while exports were 5978 tons, against only 1898 tons for the corresponding period last year. For the eight months lo May 81, 44,428 tons passed inward, against 48,662 tons for the corresponding period, and 25,982 tons passed outward, this being 1250 tons more than for the same portion ot the previous business year. Casli receipts for the eight months of the 'current year totalled £28,878, an increase of £H9<> no last year, the improvement being almost wholly attributable to better wharfage revenue. Expenditure showed an increase of £747, largely due to the purchase of new plant.
