The weather was fine and there was a large attendance. The going was holding. The little-(fancied Orate accounted for the open sprint, and returned his supporters a good double-figure dividend, the biggest of the day.
Enge outclassed the field in the Woodstock Stakes, and won running away by five lengths.
In the steeples, All Irish just held on to narrowly defeat Bryce Street. C. G. Goulsbro, who had his disqualification lifted last week, signified his return to the saddle by riding two winners.
During the day the sum of £-41,058 10s was put through the machine for eight races, compared with £21,298 for seven events at Te Awumutu last year, an increase of £19,700 10s.
