ATTACK WITH HAMMER
STOREKEEPER INJURED STRUCK ON THE HEAD YOUTH TO HE CHARGED (Por Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Alter attacking an elderly storekeeper, Mr. W. 11. Isdale, by striking him on the back of the head with a blacksmith’s hammer late yesterday afternoon, flic assailant escaped on a bicycle. Mr. Isdale conducts two stores adjoining, a grocery and a cycle shop. While in the grocery store he was asked by a youth to go to the cycle shop -and get him some ball bearings. As Mr. Isdale was reaching up to a shelf lie was struck on tiro back of the head with a blacksmith’s hammer which had been lying on the counter.
A constable who was summoned found Mr. Isdale stunned by the blow, which caused a nasty wound, and in a weak condition owing to loss of blood and shock.
At 2 o’clock this morning, detectives visited a house in Ellerslie and questioned a youth, who was taken to the detective office for further interrogation. As he is under 17 years of age and not liable to arrest, he was sent to the Mount Albert Boys’ Home pending a charge before the Children’s Court.
