PARLIAMENTARY SESSION

OPENING ON TUESDAY LEGISLATIVE PLANS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Arrangements have been completed for the opening of the final session of v the, present Parliament on Tuesday. The ~first day will be devoted to the customary ceremonial opening by the Governor-General, Lord Galway, who will read the Speech from the Throne. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, said last night that, in view of the fact that there will be no obituaries of members or past members to commemorate, for the first time in many years at the opening of a Pailiamentary session, jhe House of Representatives would be able to begin • its legislative work right away. The first measure for consideration on Wednesday, he said, would be the Imprest Supply Bill, for which urgency would be taken so that it could be put through all its stages at one sitting. The Address-in-Reply debate, which will be moved ,by Dr. D. G. McMillan, Dunedin West, and seconded by Mr. E. Roberts, Wairarapa, will open on Thursday night. In all probability the Address-in-JReply debate will occupy the House of Representatives for some time, as it provides opportunities for very wide discussion. In view of the fact that this is a pre-election session, it is not likely that members on either side of the House will ignore the very generous opportunity this occasion provides for talking on many things. “If we have any sins that have not been discussed after the Address-m-Reply debate, we must be pretty black,” Mr. Savage said. But snot and shell will not be going all one way,” he added. The Education Bill is likely to make its appearanoe next and the Prime Minister expressed a belief that, within a fortnight after the ad-dress-in-reply debate concluding, the House will be ready to proceed with the social security legislation.
