SHANGHAI INCIDENT

The British Army authorities state Ihat the troops in the incident with the Japanese on the Garden Bridge were naval men in khaki uniforms. A Japanese officer attempting to persuade a British non-commissioned officer to accompany him to Japanese Headquarters t|vvice '.seized his arm, but retired from the consulate when the non-commissioned officer re fused lo budge. 'Che British authorities are making representations to - the Japanese Army headquarters regarding the incident.
The British naval authorities say that a naval supply lorry crossing Garden Bridge was stopped by a Japanese sentry although the driver of the lorry possessed a permit. The Japanese eventually permitted the lorry to pass after an altercation.
