EFFORTS FOR RELIEF

AID TO SETTLERS TOUR BY MINISTER (Par Proas Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, left Wellington by motor car this morning to meet members of the Hawke's Bay flood damage committee and Eskdale settlers at Eskdale this afternoon. He will discuss with the committee proposals that have been submitted for the granting of immediate relief, both to farmers and townspeople affected by the floods.

The Minister said last evening that he imagined one of the first things it would be necessary to consider, sb far as farm land was concerned, was the grassing, or regrassing of the land, as it was now late in autumn. If that were not done immediately, it seemed that the work would have to wait over until the spring.

A large proportion of the wage costs in any remedial work would come from funds under his control.

The Minister will probably spend several days in the Hawke's Bay district.

BAR UNWORKABLE BOAT RETURNS TO WAIROA VKSSKL LEAVING* TO-DAY (Spocinl to tlio Hei-alil.) WAIROA, this day. The vessel left, according to schedule, at 6 a.m., but within approximately an hour was back again at the wharf.

Weather conditions permitting, she will leave to-day on her return to Napier.

The passengers who were to have left in the Tu Atu will now connect with the Awahou at Waikokopu, the vessel leaving there at 10 o'clock today.

In view of the number of school pupils commencing their term vacation, Messrs. Richardson and Company have a vessel leaving Napier early on Saturday morning for either Wairoa or Waikokopu, but this is again dependent on the weather,
