FAT SHEEP IMPROVE
CATTLE DECLINE 20/ALDINGTON VALUES (Pnr Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. There were small entries of sheep at the Addington market yesterday, but fat cattle were in over-supply. About 3500 store sheep were penned, comprising mostly old ewes and a bigger proportion than usual oi wethers. Good station wethers sold well from 21s Gd to 235. but ewes and wether lambs sold draggingly at recent values. Two-tooth ewes made up to 28s Oct. About 1600 fat lambs were penned and they ranged round about 8d per b for good quality. The bulk of the penning, however, comprised hgh. lambs which sold at less than 20s a T small entry of fat sheep, comprising less than 3000 wethers, improved by up to 2s Gd a head and ewes by to 3s a head for prime quality, ol which there was not much forward. Light sorts showed very little change, maintaining export values. Good prime wethers made from 31s to 345; tops to 38s 4d: medium to good. 27s to dus. and inferior down to 225. Ewes sold from 21s to 24s for good, and to 29s foi tops, the average price for freezing sorts being from 12s to 15s. An over-supply of fat cattle comprising 620 head saw the market go down by about 20s a head. Good steers made from £l4 10s to £l6, tops to £1» 12s Gd good medium weight sorts from £l2 to £l4, and light down to LZ Ins. WESTFIELD MARKET SHEEP ADVANCE BY 5/. SHAEP RISK IN CALVES (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this clay. There was the smallest yarding of sheep and lambs for many years at Westfield yesterday because of the interference with transport by iloods and the incidence of eczema. Bidding was very keen, with a sharp rise of 5s a head for wethers and ewes. There was a very small yarding of calves, a sharo rise amounting to £1 a head. For the seventh successive week extra choice ox was unchanged at 39s per lOOlbs. Choice and prime ox made 35s to :!8s; choice and prime cow and heifer, :Sls to 365; unfinished, 23s to 30s; extra heavy prime steers, £l4 2s Gd a drop of over £2 from last week; heavy £ll 5s lo £l3 2s Id; medium, £9 7*s Gd to £l2 10s; light, £6 12s Gd lo £ll 7s Gd: extra heavy prime cows, £lO 10s to £ll ss; heavy. £8 to £lO 7s Gd; medium, £7 to £8 17s Gd; light, £6 12s Gd to £7. Thought there were no prime heavy sheep offering, wethers sold to 395, compared with 33s Gd last week. There was keen bidding lor all classes Unfinished wethers made 20s to 31s; prime, ewes, 29s to 31s; unfinished, 13s to 19s Gd.
A very small entry of lambs sold at fairlv satisfactory prices, prune making 18s to 29s Gd: unfinished, 10s to. 18s.
An exceptionally small yarding of calves was responsible for a remarkable rise in the price of vealers, which sold to 152 s Gd, an advance ol 64s on last week. Runners made 48s to 100 s.
There was a smaller yarding of pigs than usual, baconers remaining firm at 68s to 935. Porkers advanced by as much as 14s, prices ranging from 39s to 745; choppers, 45s to 565; heavy prime baconers, 80s to 935; medium, 78s to 82s: light, 68s to 745; heavy porkers, 56s to 625: medium, 46s to 50s; light, 41s to 445; stores, His to 225. Baconers averaged tiijd per lb., and porkers 6 1 ,d to 6£d per lb.
