WORLD FAIR
INVITATION TO MAORIS TRTP TO NEW YORK An invitation for a party of Maoris to participate in the World Fair which is to open at New York on April 30, 1939, and continue for a period of six months, was conveyed in a letter which has been received by Mi'. IT. TaiMatchell from Mr. J. H. Wilson, postmaster at Honolulu. For many years Mr. Wilson has had considerable experience in the organisation of South Sea Island parties at expositions held in the United States, and at the request of the promoters of the World Fair he has again consented to organise a South Seas Islands village in connection with the forthcoming exposition. Mr. Wilson stated that he has already arranged for parties from the Tahiti, Samoan, and Hawii groups, and that he had been recommended by Dr. Peter Buck to communicate with Mr. Mitchell in connection with the possibilities of the Maoris also participating. It is desired that a parly of from 12 to 15 Maoris should form a troupe which would be absent from the Dominion for a period of about seven months
