PHYSICAL WELFARE
PROVISION IN SCHOOLS HEADMASTERS’ PLANS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A deputation to the Wellington Headmasters’ Association suggested that the time had come for an alteration in the method's used for the improvement of the physical welfare of children, and also suggested that Friday afternoon should be set apart for organised games and physical culture. The board’s discussion revealed the views that daily exercises, perhaps on new lines, would be better than concentration on physical education on one afternoon a week; that there was a danger of overdoing sports and paying too much attention to physical development at the expense of a sound 'philosophy of life; and that opinions differed as to the best form of physical education. The deputation left with the sympathy of the board in its aims and heartened in its intention to prepare a detailed scheme to lay before the board.
