SHEEP PRICES DECLINE
WEAKER LEEK MARKET (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Tlie total sheep entries at the Addington market to-day approximated 42,000, of which about 30,000 were breeding ewes. These sold at a shade below recent ewe fair rates for all serviceable sorts, but for a big showing of aged ewes, there was a pool’ sale. Good two-tooths made from 29s to 325, the top pen bringing 38s and ordinary 23s to 2Gs.
Store lambs sharply declined by about 2s a head on a week ago. The best rape lambs made from lfis to 18s; medium, 14s to 15s fid; and small and backward, 9s to 12s.
Fat lambs sold in accordance with the reduced export schedule of ,‘d per lb. Butchers paid slightly above this rate for weightier sorts. There was a moderate-sized penning of fat sheep which eased over the earlier stages by 2s a head, but most of this drop was recovered in the later part of the sale. The best wethers sold from 27s to 31s; top pens to 32s 7d; medium to good wethers, 23s to 2(is; best ewes, 19s to 235; a top pen at 26s fid; medium, lfis fid lo 19s; and inferior, down to 11s. Five hundred and sixty-five fat cattle were penned and there was a weaker market because of heavy over-supply. The best beef made from 32s to 35s per 1001 b. A few pens of tops went to 375. Heavy prime steers sold from £l4 to £l6 17s fid; good average steers, £ll 10s to £l3 10s. The best of cows and heifers sold from £8 10s to £ll 15s, and light heifers and cows down to £5. There was a short entry of porkers, and prices rose about 3s. Porkers made from 39s fid to 57s fid, the average price per To being (Ud to Grid. Baconers made from 55s (id to £4 7s fid, the average price per lb being fi\d to fi^d. There was a large entry of store pigs and prices dropped. Weaners made from 5s (id to 14s; slips, Iss to 18s: and stores, 20s to 355.
