In an extra heavy entry of pigs, the bacon quality was of good standard and fully late rates ruled. Porkers included a few prime sorts and values were inclined to be easier. MOST VALUES EASIER STORTFORD LODGE SALE AN ERRATIC DEMAND (For Press Association.) HASTINGS, this day. Fully half the smaller store cattle entry of 900 head was passed in at the weekly StcJ'tford Lodge sale yesterday. The sale was erratic, but most lines were down £1 a head on recent rates. Medium 3-year steers made to £9; forward 21-year steers, to £9; and best quality 18-months-old Polled Angus, to £8 2s. Numbers of lines of this class were passed in at over £7. Forward 18-months Polled Angus heifers made to £6 ss. *

No quotable fat steers were entered. Fat cows and heifers were easier by 10s on last week. Top prices were: Heifers, to £lO 10s, 32s to 34s a 1001 b: cows, to £9 15s, 30s a 1001 b. Store sheep were again easy. In a small entry of 0000 the quality was very mixed. Best, wethers made to 245; medium wethers, to 21s. Passing; were frequent. Store ewes, mainly aged, sold draggingly. No quotable lines of young sheep were sold. Oneyear shep made from 18s to 21s. Fat sheep sold very firmly at prices again well above the schedule, lambs selling at 83 d a lb. There was a good quality yarding of prime fat ewes at 21s to 24s Gd; medium, at 18s to 20s; and wethers, to 28s Gd.

In the store sheep section, a line of well-framed early-shorn wethers, very forward order and should command premium rates for the winter trade, sold at 24s 8d on behalf of Mr. John Tait, Waikare. A further entry of early shorn wethers on account of Mr. Tail, fairly framed and in sound good store condition, sold at 235. A draft of 144 6-year ewes from Wairoa, medium framed and in rather hard store condition, fair fattening mouths only, sold at 11s 4d.

FRANKTON QUOTATIONS MOST VAIiUKS NASI IN? A heavy yarding of mutton came forward at the Frankton stock sales on Tuesday, the majority of the entry being only of average quality. Last week’s rising values were not sustained, and the market for all classes was weaker. Fat lambs also showed a decline in values, especially unfinished classes.

There was a good yarding of cattle, and competition for a full entry of ox beef was not as keen as last week, values showing a decided easing tendency. A smaller offering of cow and heifer beef was submitted, with only a small proportion of finished cattle. Competition in this section was firm, with values showing no appreciable variation. Boner cows and potter bulls sold in advance of schedule rates, a full yarding of vealers meeting with a ready sale and values remaining on a par with recent quotations. The entry of two and a-hnlf year Shorthorn steers elicited a fair inquiry, the line of 22 averaging £B.
