UAWA COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING VARIED AGENDA PAPER (Herald Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Uawa County Council was held in Tolaga Bay on Saturday, those present being the chairman, Cr. J. McNeil, and Crs. D. I-I. Hawkins, H. R. Littleworth, J. L. Reeves, F. W. Shelton and P. T. Weeks. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. A. H. Reeves. The chairman referred to the death of Mrs. J. P. Guthrie, wife of the first engineer to the council, and a moion of sympathy and condolence with Mr. Guthrio and relatives was passed in silence.
Tho Public Works Department advised that the Minister o£ Public Works had agreed to transfer to Mangaheia road the item of £2OO free which appeared on the supplementary estimates. —The clerk reported that tiie authority had arrived. -The Under-Secretary of Departmen of Internal Affairs wrote stating that in order to have adequate supplies of an approved remedy for hydatids available it was essential that tho department be in a position to determine the quantity of any required and asking to be advised of the total number of dogs registered for tho current year.—The clerk was instructed to reply. Tho Commissioner of Transport, Wellington, advised that a report had been received relative to an accident on Racecourse road which might be attributed to an excessive amount of metal on the road and asked that the necessary action be taken to avoid future accidents from this cause.— The clerk was instructed to reply that the cause of the accident could not be attributed to excessive metal on the road.
Tho Minister of Public Works advised that the question of assistance lor flood damages would be considered after a thorough investigation had been made. Mr. A. Gordon 1-lultquist, M.P., assured the council of his assistance in the matter of securing flood damage grants. The Minister of Labour advised that Thursday had been declared the statutory closing day for shops in the district.
The Mo. 4 District Highways Council advised that the chief engineer of tho Post and Telegraph Department desired the co-operation of local bodies when road deviations and widening works which might affect tho department's'pole lines were proposed to be undertaken.—lt was resolved that the clerk should draw atterition to tho pole lines near the Tolaga quarry. Accounts amounting to £1749 were passed for payment.
