HOLD-UP SOLVED

SEAMEN WORK CARGO DECK AND HOLD JOBS WATER.SIDERS ON WHARF The hold-up which affected the coastal vessel Awahou in Gisborne this morning was disposed of, so far as the delay in commencing the discharge of cargo was concerned, shortly after midday, when the seamen engaged on the Awahou received instructions from the national union headquarters to furnish labour for the holds of the ship, as well as for the winches and other deck jobs. Work commenced this afternoon with watersiders working on the wharf, and seamen working the cargo out of the holds and over the ship’s side. Owing to the smallness of the number of seamen employed on the Awahou, only one gang can be worked, and this will mean a more protracted stay in port for the ship, but there is general satisfaction among consignees regarding the commencement of work and the prospect of uninterrupted progress to the finish of the job.
