WOMEN AND CHILDREN A SPECIAL MINISTRY NATIONAL PARTY POLICY (Special to tho Herald.) TAIHAPE, this day. “We intend to establish a special Ministry of Social Welfare,” stated the Hon. A. Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, in a policy speech here last night, when he outlined the main planks in the National Party’s platform. The purpose of the proposed Ministry, he said, would be to control the following:— “Women and Child Welfare.— Bringing about the closest cb-opera-tion and unity of action between the Government and the various welfare organisations on those matters particularly affecting women and children, including housing. “Youth Welfare. —Inaugurating a nation-wide system for the improvement of the physical development of our young people by the establishment of health camps and other means: recognition of and fullest cooperation with those organisations interested in the general welfare of our boys and girls on leaving school, and assisting them to secure ' suitable employment.
“We consider social welfare so important.” he added, “that we intend to establish a special Ministry to deal with this important aspect of our national life.”
